Looking to skip the tourist pizza traps the next time you're in Dalmatia? We've got something delicious and very under the radar to try, called soparnik.
As several countries do, Croatia also lays claim to a progenitor of the modern pizza. Soparnik hails from the area near the Dalmatian city of Split. It's kind of like a pizza, except that it's filled with swiss chard and onions (islanders would also use fennel leaves and sheep's cheese for the filling).
But what really makes soparnik really cool and super authentic, is how it's baked...directly under embers.
The result is a delicious, crispy, and frankly, pretty healthy snack.
